Laura received her Bachelor of Arts from Colorado State University in English (creative writing), her Master of Arts from Regis University in literature and creative writing, and her Master of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado in Special Education (generalist).  She is currently working on a PhD in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2022.  Her areas of focus are inclusion and general education teacher preparation with a focus on students with significant support needs (including serious emotional/behavioral disability, intellectual disability, autism, and multiple disabilities).

Laura began substitute teaching for students with disabilities in the fall of 2013.  She has been the significant support needs special education teacher at Fort Lupton Middle School since August of 2015.

Laura has lived in Colorado since she was 12, and absolutely loves living along the Front Range.  Before becoming a teacher, she was an editor.  She has edited two anthologies of science fiction, one novel, and one humor book about parenting.  She enjoys visiting Yellowstone National Park every summer to watch the fumaroles and hot springs with her husband and mother-in-law.  In her free time, she enjoys doing homework, researching topics of interest, playing tabletop games, and playing piano.  She lives in Loveland with her husband, in-laws, Great Dane, cat, and two fainting goats.
