Mark Hartwig graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelors degree in History with a Secondary Education emphasis in the Spring of 2003.  Mark has studied in the History department at UNC, in the graduate program, and is currently working on his Master's degree from UNC in Education Leadership.

Mark began his teaching career as a substitute teacher in the Greeley/Evans School District 6 and the Thompson R2-J School District (2003-2005).  After two years Mark accepted a position at Fort Morgan High School (2005-2013) teaching in the Social Studies Department.  While at Fort Morgan High School Mark taught World Cultures (9th grade), United States Government (12th grade), Psychology (11th and 12th grade) and United States History (10th and 11th grade).  Mark was a class sponsor, Student Senate sponsor and member of the PBIS team and RTI teams at FMHS.

Mark participated in the Teaching American History (TAH) program which brought social studies teachers from all around Northern Colorado together to improve American History education in middle and high schools.  Through this program Mark had several lessons published in an online book source for secondary teachers entitled Hands on History: Primary Source Excercises for Middle and High School Classrooms {(ISBN: 1-56735-287-1, ISBN-13: 978-1-56735-287-0) © 2011 Pikes Peak Library District}.

After 8 years, Mark decided to take on the challenge of teaching middle school and came to Fort Lupton.  Mark initially taught 6th Grade Social Studies (History and Geography of the Western Hemisphere) for the 2013/2014 school year at FLMS.  Mark now teaches 8th grade U.S. History, is the Social Studies Department Chair, and 8th grade team leader here at Fort Lupton Middle School.

Mark lives with his wife Hilary and three boys in Evans, Colorado.  Mark grew up in Berthoud, Colorado and graduated from Berthoud High School in 1995.  Besides being a 15 year veteran teacher and a graduate student, Mark enjoys spending time with his wife, watching his son play goalie for the Greeley Bears, and playing ice hockey every Sunday night.
